Samurai Jack
Watched my first episode of Samurai Jack tonight...
On an alien planet, Aku contacts four Emikandi hunters and offers them the chance to hunt Jack. They capture Jack with incredible ease but Jack just as easily frees himself after he hears they're working for Aku and the real hunt begins! After an extended chase the two sides battle atop a skyscraper and Jack falls to his death...but the hunters rescue him out of respect for their greatest prey. Then the Emikandi refuse to give him to Aku out of respect for Jack's skill and depart.
I joined the show in the middle of ten minutes of stylized chase scenes with no words, one Emikandi shoots an arrow at Jack. Balancing on the skyscraper, Jack zones in and catches it in his hand only to have the arrow turn into a poisonous snake and bite him. As he falls, the Emikandi not only dive to save his life, they protect him from the evil Aku. The idea of battling a worthy opponent and within that battle gaining such profound respect that you set them free was striking.
And the last line was.. "Be Free, Jack, Be Free."
