Around Stanley Bay

Two races were all we could stand and some venturing around Stanley took us to...

... the Murray House (pic below) , which is very interesting mainly because in 1982, it was completely dismantled and moved from the Central District of Hong Kong to Stanley where it was put back together piece by piece. The Bank of China is now where the Murray House used to be.

... the and the Tin Hau temple (pics below) - one of Hong Kong's oldest - built in honor of a young woman who died at the age of 27 having lived a "life of miracles": she would perform miracles that would protect the lives of the men at sea during storms. "Chinese legend says Tin Hau, the daughter of a fisherman in China's Fujian Province, had visions that enabled her to predict storms. On one occasion she saved her father's boat from a fearsome tempest and other stories have emerged about Tin Hau saving people from drowning."

... and what would a town in HK be without... a shopping market! The Stanley Market is a covered shopping area (pic below) - the main thing I noticed is that you can get amazingly cheap silk sheets although Michelle mentioned she'd heard that the mattress sizes in HK are different than in the States. Damn.
