Looking down on the main strip in Phuket around 11 o'clock on Sunday night. We saw a drunk guy try and ride through the crowd in a motorbike, only to give up when the opportunity came along to start a fight. We thought that this was what caused people to start running through the streets... turned out, a tsunami warning had been issued following an earthquake just west of Phuket. The sirens installed on the beach sound similar to tornado warning sirens, and with no English-speaking television stations we were left to assess the situation based on news graphics and sirens. The night got longer than expected...
